How is Oxyal™ different to other lubricating drops?

Protector
Oxyal™ contains a filmogenous polymer called Protector™. This increases the viscosity of the hyaluronic acid and improves shear thinning rates. This in turn provides better lubrication, clear vision and improves comfort.
In simple terms Protector™ helps to prolong the wetting action of the solution on the surface of the eye and reduces the evaporation of the tear film in comparison to other sodium hyaluronate drops. Protector™ helps Oxyal™ to behave like a thicker drop without actually making it thicker and therefore avoiding some of the issues of thicker drops such as blurring vision.
Oxyal™ is also one of the few sodium hyaluronate drops to be available on prescription

Oxyd
OxydTM is a rapidly biodegradable preservative system.
When Oxyal™ comes into contact with the enzymes and proteins naturally present in your tear film, Oxyd™ is converted into physiological salt and oxygen. This results in users having no toxicity, allergy and corneal irritation problems when using Oxyal™.
Many eye products contain a preservative called benzalkonium chloride (BAC). Used long term this preservative can have a negative effect on the ocular surface and the epithelium. Equally an unpreserved product leaves itself open to contamination and the possibility of infection within the bottle. The ideal system is one that protects the solution in the bottle and, on contact with the eye, biodegrades into naturally occurring physiological elements causing no irritation or reaction to the eye.
The DEWS report states in its section on preservatives “the ideal lubricant would come in a multidose, easy to use bottle that contains a preservative that completely dissipates before reaching the tear film, or is completely non toxic and non irritating and maintains absolute sterility with frequent use.”
Oxyal™ fits this description.
Oxyal™ is safe to use with all types of contact lenses.
